November 2007 - Helping Hands from Canggu School
When Sophie from Canggu School heard her mother talking about the North Bali DEVA children’s project they wanted to know more. After they saw photos of some of the children they felt very sad for them but they decided to help.
Sophie got very excited. She decided to go and meet the children themselves and give them their donations. Sophie’s mother Cassandra was happy to help. She decided they would all go to visit the North Bali children.
The night before their trip Sophie helped her mother pack the books, toys and clothes into boxes. She was very happy that the things that she didn’t need anymore would be loved and played with by children that really needed them.
The very next day Sophie and her mother, Cassandra, went with Indra from DEVA tommet the children and to find out for themselves where their gifts would go. They visited the Learning Centre and Library supported by DEVA. They gave their books and games to Kadek who manages the centre. He and the children in the library were thrilled to meet the girls and to have new books to read.
Sophie also visited one of the children who is supported by DEVA. Her name is Putu. She is just a bit older than them. She was was very sad to see the house that she lived in with 10 other people and to hear that she sews bags to pay for her own school fees. When she heard that Putu had just got a sponsor from DEVA to pay for her to go to school they were a happier. Sophie gave her some nice presents. Putu was happy too.
